This shoot was a big, hard and fast day. We had limited time with the talent and had to get through storyboards for 6 ad scenarios, plus extra PTC content.
We were prescribed the basketball court location, and had to start from scratch, so my gaffer and best boy had to unload an entire large van to adequately light a half court.
The day’s schedule was tight and so was the crew, with just a camera assistant to work with me, and a late shoot day replacement for my producer, who was unfortunately struck down with covid at the last minute.
My roles on the dat covered DoP, Director, Camera Op and grip, with an assistant to help with camera rigging, slates and swinging lenses.
To cover the variety of the storyboards I chose to a 2 camera shoot, between the C300Mk3 on an easyrig, and C70 on a gimbal.
The C300 I really like to operate directly, to follow the action and bring an extra energy through the intensity of the movement.
Alternately the C70 on a gimbal gives a softer, smoother look for the more “heroic” talent and product shots to hold on a beat longer.
Getting through the shoot and into post, I was up to me as offline editor in Melbourne, then handing off to the Sydney team to run a grade session with the client, and handing back to me in Melbourne for the online.
The first edit here is my, approved 15sec edit, and the second version is one that was slightly changed by The Monkeys and sent to broadcast.
hectic, but a great opportunity to work with current and past legends of Australian basketball.
