L’Oreal content is something I’ve historically had a lot of experience crafting. This creative appears simple, but is delicate to execute, looking through Peter Blackwood’s purpose built vanity, and lighting the scene in an expeditious way to simulate multiple times of day or night, as well as “beauty” looks, but also fit the shoot into a standard 10 hour call.
I really enjoy this type of technical studio work, as it stimulates a whole different problem solving muscle group. To craft the light as much as directing and shooting the ads. Working with Julie is fantastic, she’s a true producer that crafts her production as much as the creative team executing it.
Our talent were fantastic, so we were able to work fast, have a laugh and make a nice series out of it.
We shot this one on the Canon C300Mk3 with Zeiss CP2 lenses, for a more clean and clinical look. In grade we pulled the colours more towards an Arri tonal look, and did some online VFX cleanups in Davinci Resolve. In all of the vanity scenes I was able to patch out the extra shelf mounting holes on either side of the cupboard, as well as some light touch skin and beauty work along the way.
